Commands that can be issued from the GO/Command Box are listed here.
The format is very flexible, and you will see a number of suggestions if there is any ambiguity.
For example, Jn 3:16 will suggest four different commands, including Search for Jn 3:16.

Most Set... commands can be implemented in Tools > Program Settings.

Use Alt+D (PC) or Option+Command+L (Mac) for quick access to the Command Box.

Documents

  1. Create {Document type} named {Document name} – e.g. Create Clippings named Creation
    • See Documents menu for Document type
  2. Create {Document type} – create a document with that type e.g. Create Clippings, Create Syntax Search
  3. Open {Document type} named {Document name} – e.g. Open Clippings named Creation
  4. Open {Document type} – will open a document from a list of recent documents of that type e.g. Open Clippings
  5. Open {Document name} – open a document with that name e.g. Open Creation

Font/Scaling Settings

  1. Set Content Scaling to {80%|90%|100%|110%|120%} – affects text size in all panels
    • e.g. Set Content Scaling to 120
    • Set Text Size to ... will also work
    • can select {80% – 360%} in Program Settings
  2. Set Program Scaling to {50% – 250% (every 5 points)} – affects all display elements like icon size, text size, spacing.
    • e.g. Set Program Scaling to 85
    • can select {80% – 200%} in Program Settings
  3. Set Default Resource Font to {Font Name}
  4. Set Greek Font to {Font Name}
  5. Set Greek Transliteration Format to {Transliteration Name}
  6. Set Hebrew Font to {Font Name}
  7. Set Hebrew Transliteration Format to {Transliteration Name}
  8. Set Syriac Font to {Font Name}
  9. Set Syriac Transliteration Format to {Transliteration Name}

Guides/Workflows

  1. Open {Guide Name} to {Reference|Word|Topic} – e.g. Open Passage Guide to Jn 1.3, Open BWS to ἀγάπη, Open Topic Guide to God
  2. Open {Section} to {Reference|Word|Topic} – e.g. Open Topic to God opens the Topic section to “God”, Open Translation to λέγω, Open Commentaries to Jn1:3
    • Section names can be found in the Guides menu

Note, there are no commands for Workflows.

Indexing

  1. Rebuild Index – deletes and rebuilds all your resource indexes.
  2. Rebuild Library Index - deletes and rebuilds only the library index.
  3. Rebuild Bible Index - deletes and rebuilds only the Bible index.
  4. Rebuild Personal Book Index - deletes and rebuilds only the Personal Book index.
  5. Reindex {Abbreviated Title | Resource Id} - re-indexes a single resource e.g. reindex ESV; reindex LLS:1.0.710

Layout

  1. Close All - closes all panels and returns you to a blank desktop
    • the Close All Panels button near the Layouts menu does the same as Close All.
    • the Close Active Layout item in the Layouts menu removes the layout name from the Title bar but doesn’t close any panels.
  2. Open {Layout Name} – applies to all named layouts e.g. Open Creation Study
  3. Open Passage Study to {Bible Reference} – opens the Home Page Passage Study layout e.g. Open Passage Study to Jn3.16.
    • there are also suggestions for the Passage Guide
    • Study {Bible Reference} will suggest the Passage Study layout with pericope ranges if Reference intersects a Pericope e.g. Study Jn 3:16
    • {Bible Reference} alone will suggest the Passage Study layout e.g. Jn 3:16
    • {Bible Reference} and Study {Bible Reference} will also suggest a Lookup in your preferred bible
  4. Open Topic Study to {Topic} – opens the Home Page Topic Study layout e.g. Open Topic Study to love
    • Study {Topic} will suggest the Topic Study layout and the Passage Study layout (if Topic intersects a Pericope) e.g. Study love
  5. Update Active Layout - creates a copy of your named current layout (Ctrl+Alt+L on Windows; Ctrl+Opt+Cmd+L on OS X)

Lookup/Go

Opens a preferred resource to a reference or headword e.g. Louw-Nida number, bible reference, English headword (topic).
Lookup can also be used for Greek/Hebrew headwords (lemmas).

  1. Go to {Reference} – e.g. Go to Jn 1:3, Go to G12 (for Strong’s Greek #12)
  2. Lookup {Reference | Headword} – e.g. Lookup Jn 1:3, Lookup G12, Lookup ἀγάπη, Lookup Aaron’s rod

Note that Lookup and Go to can be omitted in many cases e.g. Jn 1:3, G12.

Notes tool

  1. Show Notes – open the Notes tool
  2. Set Default Notes Font to {Font Name} – e.g. Set Default Notes Font to Garamond
  3. Set Default Notes Text Size to {8...12} – e.g. Set Default Notes Text Size to 10
  4. Set Prefer Notes Tool to {Yes | No} – Notes are saved to the Notes tool by default.
    See Logos 7 Commands for Notes if set to “No”.
    Requires a restart.

Program Settings

General
  1. Set Check Spelling While Typing to {Yes| No}
  2. Set Citation Style to {Citation Style}
  3. Set Copy Citations to {Yes|No}
  4. Set Copy Footnotes to {Yes| No}
  5. Set Language to {English | Spanish | Dutch | ...} – changes the user interface language, but see UILang below
  6. Set Play Sounds to {Yes|No}
  7. Set Show Alerts to {Yes|No}
  8. Set Show Help Cards to {Yes|No|Reset} – show Help info when you open a panel v8.10+
  9. Set Show Keyboard Selector to {Yes|No} – change keyboard layout to type in Greek or Hebrew v8.8+
  10. Set Suggest Latin Lemmas to {Yes| No} v8.11+
  11. Set Suggest Transliterated Lemmas to {Yes| No} v8.11+
Internet
  1. Set Automatically Start Downloads to {Yes|No} – applies to Local resources (new/updated) and software
  2. Set Download New Resources to {Yes|No} – “Yes” = treat as Local, “No” = treat as Cloud i.e. they can be downloaded from Library
  3. Set Send Feedback to {All|Anonymous|None}
  4. Set Use Internet to {Yes|No}
Text Display
  1. Set Double-click Action to {Default| Lookup |Search|Search Inline|Select Word}
  2. Set Triple-click Action to {Default| Lookup |Search|Search Inline|Select Paragraph}
  3. Set Prefer Lemmas to {Yes|No} – prefer underlying Lemmas or surface text for certain mouse click Actions in RI resources
  4. Set Justify Resource Text to {Yes|No}
  5. Set Line Spacing to {Default|Tight|Loose| Normal}
  6. Set Show Red Letter in Bibles to {Yes|No}
  7. Set Show Selection Menu to {Yes|No} – open a subset of Context menu items after selection of text
  8. Set Text Selection to {Character| Word |Smart}
Other

(Not in Tools > Program Settings)

  1. Set Accessibility to {Yes| No} – enables or disables UI Automation, used by screen readers to read user interface controls
  2. Set Preferred Bible to {Title | Abbreviation} – e.g. ESV, NRSV, NASB95
  3. Set Show Unavailable Features to {Yes|No} – features in Documents and Tools for which you don’t have a licence
  4. Set Update Channel to {default|stable|beta} – see Explanation
  5. Set Use Gestures to {Yes| No}
  6. Set Use Ngen to {Yes| No} – for performance optimization in Windows. ‘No’ will undo optimization.
    Requires a restart.
  7. Set Verbum to {Yes| No} – for partial Verbum configuration in Logos. Note that Faithlife recommends the Verbum app.
    Requires a restart.

Resources

  1. Open {Author} – e.g. Open David Jeremiah will provide a list of resources by that author.
  2. Open {Resource Name} – e.g. Open Biblical People, Open Help
  3. Open {Resource Name | Series} to {Reference | Headword} – similar to the Lookup command.
  4. Open {Resource ID | Filename} to {Reference | Headword} – opens a resource using its Resource ID or filename (without extension)
    e.g. open LLS:1.0.71 or open NASB95 will open the NASB95 bible.
  5. Start Reading Aloud - starts reading the active resource.
  6. Stop Reading Aloud - stops reading.
  7. Copy {Bible Reference} from {Bible Version} – will copy the passage from your preferred bible if a Version is not specified e.g Copy Jn 3:12
  8. Delete Unlicensed Resources - deletes locked/invalid resource files to free up disk space e.g. after cancelling your subscription.
  9. FSD in {Collection} – Facilitate Serendipitous Discovery e.g. FSD
    • Opens a random resource to a random location.
    • Collection will restrict the choice of resources

Scan

This command will search all directories/folders under the given path and prepare licensed resources for use in Logos.

  1. Scan {Resource Path} – finds resources in the path or on a disk.
  2. Scan DVD – finds resources on a media disk in the drive (PC)
  3. Scan Optical Media – finds resources on a media disk in the drive (Mac)

Although a restart isn’t necessary, you may be requested to restart Logos for resources that are being used (or open).

  1. Search for {Search Term} – a Basic Search e.g. Search for God
  2. Bible Search for {Search Term}
  3. Clause Search for {Search Term}
  4. Media Search for {Search Term}
  5. Morph Search for {Search Term}
  6. Set Use New Search Engine to {Yes|No} – ‘Yes’ is the default
    See New Search Engine for details.

Use Document commands for Morph Query & Syntax Search
for can be omitted in most cases.

Sync

  1. Sync Now – forces an immediate sync and can be used to sync manually if automatic sync is disabled.
    This command synchronizes user items such as notes, layouts, etc.
  2. Sync Repair – forces Logos to re-check that it has sync’d everything when you know something is missing!

Tools

  1. Show {Tool name} – opens tools on the Tools menu e.g. Show Concordance, Show Bible Browser
  2. Show Factbook to {Item Name} – e.g. Show Factbook to Jesus
  3. For Passage Analysis:
    1. Show Passage Analysis
    2. Show Compare Pericopes for {Bible Reference}
    3. Show Word Tree for {Bible Reference}
    4. Show Morph River for {Bible Reference}
    5. Show Cluster Graph for {Bible Reference}
    6. Show Version River for {Bible Reference}

Open can be used in place of Show


Update Software/Resources

  1. Update Now – checks what software/resources have been updated on the server since your last update.
    • Also used to restart Cancelled updates.
  2. Update Resources – performs an intensive check against your licenses, the resources on your computer and resources on the server to ensure that you have everything.


User Interface Language

  1. UILang {lang} – changes the User Interface language
    • use the following language abbreviations:
      af = Afrikaans, pt = Portuguese, nl = Dutch, en = English,
      fr = French, de = German, it = Italian, es = Spanish, sv = Swedish
    • this works in any language, so you don’t have to worry about the current language setting
    • Requires a restart.
