Passage List documents are specialized files to catalog and organize references (both Biblical and non-biblical). The passage list can list references only or display the text of those references.

To create a blank passage list document click File>Passage List.

Saving verses returned by a Bible/Morph/Syntax search.

After running a search click on the tile menu. Select “Save as a Passage List”

Adding Items

Single Reference

1. Click Add > Enter a Passage in the Reference box, hit enter or click the blue arrow.

2. Click and hold on a reference (i.e. a Bible verse hyperlink in a commentary) and drag it into the passage list and release.

3. In a Bible, or other versified resource, right click in the verse, select reference in the context menu and then “Add to passage list ‘XXXX’”

Multiple References

1. Select a block of text in a resource that has multiple references. Click Add >... selected text. This will add the references cited in the selected text.

2. Click Add > ...another passage list. Select the title of the Passage list you want added to your list.

3. Click Add > ...file. Navigate to the text file of your choice. This text file can be a simple list of verses or it can be an article with Bible verses in it. The Passage list recognizes the scripture references and adds them to the list. (The Bible reference must be capitalized to be recognized.)

Merging with Other Passage Lists

A Merge creates a new Passage List out of two lists. This utility can be particularly useful when comparing passage lists generated by searches. There are four different Merge Options: Union, Intersection, Difference, and Symmetrical Difference. To use the feature: Click Merge, Choose a second Passage List from the file list, Select the merge method. A new list is then generated.

Applications of the Merge

Work in Progress

  1. Combining the results of two searches while still keeping the original Passage Lists

  1. Discovering where two searches overlap

  1. Removing the results of a baseline search to see how your modifications changed the results.

  1. Removed a set of common hits between two similar searches so you examine verses that only appear in one search but not both.

Organizing a Passage List

Right click in the passage list and click heading. Edit the name of the heading. Repeat as necessary. A heading’s title can be changed by clicking on the title text or the pencil icon.

Clicking the Sort button will arrange the verses in canonical order and remove any duplicates. If there are headings in the document the verses will be sorted and duplicates removed per-section.

Manual Sorting

References and headings can be clicked and dragged to a new location. If you click and drag to the right of the reference it is simply moved to the new location. If you click and drag directly on the reference then a copy is placed in the new location.

Deleting an entry

Click the red X on the right hand side to remove it from the list. To remove multiple entries select the ones you wish to remove (hold down ctrl to select individual or select the first, hold down shift and select the last) and hit the delete key or right click and select delete.

Display Text

Click the blue “+ Add Version” and select the bibles(s), resources, or collections you wish to display the references. Deleting the version abbreviations will remove that version from the passage list. This functions exactly like the Add Version function in the Bible, Morph, and Syntax search.

Non-biblical text

Quote from Kevin Passage lists can handle canonical, deuterocannonical, pseudipigraphical, apostolic fathers, Philo, Josephus etc. Basically, if a work has a versification scheme the passage list should be able to handle it.

To get books from varying types (e.g. Josephus, Philo, & Bible) to show in your passage list, you can create a collections of those books. Then in your Passage List select your collection in the Resource box of your passage list. (see this tip)
