THESE PROCEDURES ARE NOT SUPPORTED by Faithlife, SO YOU PERFORM THEM AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Before you Start

Use File Explorer Options in Control Panel to enable viewing of hidden files and folders.
You must select a Custom installation in order to avoid an automatic download of resources.
Do not install a version that is older than your working installation.
After installation, you may need to download fonts for use in third party applications like MS Word.

These procedures (Methods) use generic folder and file names. See below for specifics of your Logos/Verbum version.

Logos

Logos 9 (not supported) can be installed from Logos9Setup.
Logos 10+ can be installed from Logos10Setup.
The default installation path is C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Logos (%localappdata%\Logos).
The path to your resources is ...\Logos\Data\randomId\ResourceManager\Resources.
Note: Your Logos folder name could be \Logos, \Logos4 or \Logos5, depending on when/how you upgraded.
File names are prefixed by ‘Logos’ e.g. Logos-x64.msi, Logos.exe.

Verbum

Verbum can be installed side-by-side with Logos as it has a different executable and base folder.
Verbum 9 (not supported) can be installed from Verbum9Setup.
Verbum 10+ can be installed from Verbum10Setup.
The default installation path is C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Verbum (%localappdata%\Verbum).
The path to your resources is ...\Verbum\Data\randomId\ResourceManager\Resources.
File names are prefixed by ‘Verbum’ e.g. Verbum-x64.msi, Verbum.exe.

Method 1

This Method is intended for use with an offline computer.
Please read Before you Start carefully.

  1. Backup the Logos or Verbum folder from a working installation to an external drive
    • the files in ...\Install\Installers are needed for installation at Steps 3 & 4.
(if you have a custom installation, these files are in the default installation path).
  2. Where necessary install the latest .NET for your operating system (Offline installers are available)
  3. If necessary run DXSETUP.exe
  4. Run Logos-x64.msi (or Verbum-x64.msi) from the desired user account
    • select Custom installation and uncheck “Automatically Download Updates”
    • change the installation folder if necessary e.g. E:\, C:\Users\username
    • when the installation has finished, immediately exit the Sign-in window (if it appears)
      • with v8+, you have to kill Logos in Task Manager.
    • create a shortcut from ...\Logos\Logos.exe & move it to your Desktop
  5. If they exist delete the following folders from the new installation and replace them from your backup
    • \Logos\Data
    • \Logos\Documents
    • \Logos\Users
    • these are the only folders that you need from backup
  6. Start Logos and sign-in
    • initial sign-in will have to be performed online.
    • then close Logos, restart it with the Ctrl key held and select Work Offline.

Note: you can update or upgrade from a previous version with the appropriate *.msi file, but you may have to sign-in online.

Method 2

This Method saves resource downloading and indexing but gets installation files from Logos servers.
Please read Before you Start carefully.

If you use this Method to create an additional installation beware that the two libraries will be kept in sync with v8+
i.e. if you remove or download resources in one, it will be repeated in the other.
This will not occur if the original installation will be removed e.g. when re-installing.

  1. Backup the Logos or Verbum folder from a working installation to an external drive.
  2. Install Logos/Verbum from the appropriate Setup link above.
    • if you want to install a beta version use the link from the Beta forum
    • select Custom installation and uncheck “Automatically Download Updates”
    • change the installation folder if necessary e.g. E:\, C:\Users\username
    • when the installation has finished, immediately exit the Sign-in window
      • if necessary, kill Logos in Task Manager.
  3. If they exist delete the following folders from the new installation and replace them from your backup
    • \Logos\Data
    • \Logos\Documents
    • \Logos\Users
    • these are the only folders that you need from backup
  4. Start Logos/Verbum and sign-in

Method 3

This Method involves Indexing whilst avoiding the resource download.
Please read Before you Start carefully.

  1. Backup your Resources folder to an external drive.
  2. Install Logos/Verbum from the appropriate Setup link above.
    • if you want to install a beta version get the link from the Beta forum
    • select Custom installation and uncheck “Automatically Download Updates”
    • change the installation folder if necessary e.g. E:\, C:\Users\username
  3. Sign-in to Logos/Verbum after the installation has finished
    • with v8+, you must first select a minimal set of resources:
      • close the window when downloading begins at Step 2
      • kill Logos if running in the Background
      • restart Logos
    • enter scan <path to backup resources> in the Logos Command box
      e.g. scan D:\Resources.
    • Indexing should start and can take a considerable time to complete
    • Also, allow some time for your documents to sync
