What’s New in 4.3

Personal Books

Implemented the Personal Books feature, which can be found on the Tools menu. (See Known Issues.)

Resource Justification and Hyphenation

Full justification of resource text, with hypenation, can be enabled/disabled in Program Settings. The default setting is enabled (“Yes”).

Other New Features

Copy Bible Verses
- Added a new “Observation Worksheet” style to the gallery of Copy Bible Verses styles.
Exegetical Guide
- The default “Parts of Speech” setting in the “Word by Word” section is now “Include only these parts of speech” with only Verbs, Nouns, Adjectives and Adverbs selected. Other parts of speech will be displayed, but will be grayed out. Clicking on a grayed-out word will generate data and navigate to the result.
Notes
- Improved performance of sync for notes.
- Improved responsiveness of notes UI while sync is uploading.
Resources
- Added ‘edition’ information to distinguish between Logos editions, eBooks, and User Created books. Additional information will appear on the info panel of the book and in the ‘Edition’ column of the detailed library view.
Search Panel
- Morph Search picker will select lemmas by default. To search for forms, use form:word.
Sentence Diagram
- Added “Copy image” and “Send to PowerPoint” and/or “Send to Keynote” to context menu.
Sync
- Sync v2 for Copy Bible Verses implemented.

- Implemented Undo (Cmd-Z) and Redo (Shift-Cmd-Z) support.

Context menu
- Fixed bug that caused delays and hangs displaying resource context menus.
- Fixed crash when right-clicking in “A Grammatical Analysis of the Greek New Testament.” (See this thread.)
- “Remove highlighting” (if applicable) and “Report typo” (if working online) are shown in a new section between searching and KeyLink destinations. The commands are made available immediately, without having to wait for KeyLink destinations to populate.
- Fixed bug that caused a hang when using the right-click menu to run a search. (See this thread.)
Copy Bible Verses
- Imposed a limit on the number of characters allowed in the title of a new copy style (256 characters.)
Data Types
- Fixed bug that caused any data type string beginning with “G” and followed by a number to always be parsed as a Strong’s number. (See this thread.)
Exegetical Guide
- Fixed bug that caused crashes in the Print/Export panel.
Home Page
- Prayer List “Edit” link will remain at the same lower-left location on ribbon section whether prayers are still listed or are done for the day. (See this thread.)
- Fixed crash that could occur when loading a problem image on the home page.
Keylink
- Fixed bug that caused the prioritized Targum Lexicon to be missing from list of keylink resources when the “from this resource” advanced prioritization limit was set to a Targum text.
Layouts
- Fixed bug that caused Layouts menu to decrease in size when using a filter not contained in any named layout.
Library Catalog
- Reduced sensitivity to apostrophe in Library Catalog filters (e.g., “Thayer’s” matches “Thayers”).
Localization
- Added support for localized Bible dates (a.C. and d.C.).
- Changed “LTR” button in Sentence Diagram document to “IAD” for Spanish UI.
Media Resources
- The “Save As...” context menu option is available when right-clicking on an image in a media resource.
Passage Guide
- Fixed bug that prevented the “more >>” link from expanding the Topic section results in List view.
Passage Lists
- URLs beginning with “file:” are no longer accepted in the “Add Passages from...URL” box. Local files can be added using “Add Passages from...file.” (See this thread.)
Power Lookup
- The correct information is generated when looking up a Selection or a Reference (i.e., choosing Selection from context menu and choosing Power Lookup will display dictionary definitions).
Print/Export
- When printing RTL resources, columns in preview will be arranged in RTL order as they are in resource. (See this thread.)
- Changed print selection options (e.g., “Use selected text” and “Use current graph”) from one drop-down selector to two radio buttons.
Resource Panel
- Search fields listed on the Resource Info panel are now displayed alphabetically using their primary alias/title instead of internal name (e.g., “Words of Christ” not “words-of-christ”).
- Fixed bug that could cause a portion of the vertical line separating volume number from title on a resource title page to overlap text in multi-column layout (e.g., title page in “The Contemplative Pastor”). (See this thread.)
- Fixed bug that caused underlining resource text to obscure diacritics displayed below the line.
- Strong’s number links in the Reverse-Interlinear pane now open the prioritized lexicon.
Resources
- Fixed bug preventing dictionaries from opening to the correct headword (from the context menu) when they contain multiple articles (for different synonyms of that word).
- Improved performance of datatype lookups, especially when only one resource is available for a particular datatype. (See this thread.)
Search Engine
- Fixed bug that caused several words with embedded underscores (e.g., Jesus_or_Joshua) to be included in the Bible Index. Note: To see the results of the fix, the ‘Rebuild Bible Index’ command will need to be entered.
Search Panel
- Fixed bug that caused Basic Search to run instead of Bible Search with “Search this resource” context menu option in a Bible when “Greek (or Hebrew) Strong’s,” “Louw-Nida,” or “Manuscript” was selected.
- Fixed bug that caused ‘x’ not to be highlighted in search results for queries such as ‘x BEFORE 1 WORDS y BEFORE 2 WORDS z’.
Startup
- Improved Sign In window instructions for English and Spanish UIs.
Syntax Graphs
- Cleaned up display of printed/exported graphs.
Syntax Search Document
- Fixed bug so now group titles in ‘Source’ section will check/uncheck all the boxes below it when clicked.
- Added a vertical scrollbar to enable scrolling through a lengthy Previous Searches list.
Untransliteration
- Fixed the following Greek untransliteration issues: “J” for Greek iota, “U” for Greek omicron + upsilon; and “Jesus” (with capital ‘J’) will map to the lemma.

Bug Fixes for Mac

Bible Word Study
- Fixed crash that could occur when clicking on density graph to open Graph Bible Search Results panel. (See this thread.)
Diagnostic Logging
- Full Logging has been disabled to improve performance in the program. Logging can be enabled temporarily or permanently by following the steps below. Note: Crash logs will still be generated with logging disabled; however, if a crash occurs, development will need the Logos4.log or Indexer.log as well.
  - Temporary logging: Open Logos 4 by pressing the Command key immediately after clicking the icon in the Dock, keeping Cmd held down until the Sign In window appears. Click the Sign In button to open the program with logging enabled for that session.
  - Permanent logging: Quit Logos 4 and open the Terminal utility. Enter defaults write com.logos.Logos_Bible_Software_4 LoggingEnabled -bool YES.
  - Disable Permanent logging: Quit Logos 4 and open the Terminal utility. Enter defaults write com.logos.Logos_Bible_Software_4 LoggingEnabled -bool NO.
Exegetical Guide
- Fixed crash when running a guide on a NT passage with the NA27 as the selected resource.
- Word by Word Settings and selected Resource are remembered for same passage after panel is closed and reopened or after Refresh Guide (F5) is selected from panel menu.
Explorer
- Fixed crash when Explorer was opened if a ‘My Content’ item had been deleted since the last use.
Guides
- In Guide Template Editor, changed Guide type selector from List to buttons.
- Fixed bug that caused ‘Add’ button to be missing from Guides except when running a report from the Home Page ‘Go’ box.
Immediate Compare
- Fixed bug that did not display Compare Bible Versions when clicking inside the Immediate Compare popup.
Library
- Library drop-down is now dismissed after clicking title, book cover, or arrow to open resource. (See Known Issues.)
Library Catalog
- Decreased size of Catalog.db file by replacing the existing PNG image files used for book covers with JPEG files. Note that the Mac Catalog.db file will still be larger than the corresponding Windows file.
Media Resources
- Fixed crash and improved performance when paging through “Logos Bible Software Infographics.”
Morph Search panel
- Fixed morph picker bugs:
  - Selecting the parts of speech and their corresponding fields can be done using mouse or keyboard, and selections will now be populated in the Find box.
  - Selection by keyboard is now consistent with the Windows version: arrow down to item, press Spacebar to select, and Enter to close morph picker.
Notes Document
- Fixed bug that caused the hint text in a new note to be duplicated on Lion OS X.
- Fixed crash when indenting a bullet point (added via the rich text editor toolbar).
- Fixed crash that could occur when editing notes. (See this thread.)
Parallel Resources
- Fixed a bug that caused a crash when progressing through a custom parallel resource set that included both Bibles and Clause Visualizers. (See this thread.)
Passage Analysis
- Fixed Word Tree, Morph River, and Version River display.
- Fixed bug that prevented resource picker dropdown from being dismissed normally after clicking on Cluster Graph.
Passage Guide
- Fixed bug in Compare Versions section for missing text popups when hovering over dots, and Text Comparison opening when the dot is clicked.
- Fixed crash that could occur when the Biblical People section in Passage Guide was generated. (See this thread and this thread.)
- Fixed bug that caused a crash when clicking for a second time on the Settings for the Compare Versions section.
Passage Lists
- Fixed bug that caused filtered passages (using Cmd-F) to remain in their non-filtered location in the panel rather than moving to the top of the panel.
Print/Export
- Fixed bug that caused the “Margins” drop-down, when printing from a Clause Visualizer resource, to cover the “Use current graph” and “Use selected text” options when one of those options was clicked.
- Fixed bug that prevented preview generation when a reference was entered without selecting it first from the auto-complete list.
- Fixed focus bug that caused Cmd-P to not always print the active panel.
Reading Plan
- Range drop-down will open with focus on current range rather than the New Reference Range box.
- Added ‘Edit’ button and alert ribbon for plans in progress.
- Fixed bug that did not display section headings in reference picker drop down.
Resource Panel
- Fixed bug that required waiting for the dropdown reference picker to populate for proper navigation. (See this thread)
- Fixed bug that caused Parallel Resource icon in a specific resource to be missing. (See this thread.)
- Moved Visual Filter button closer to Panel menu in resources that do not have an active reference box on their toolbar.
- Fixed bug that truncated resource location on the Locator Bar.

- Fixed bug that caused a long delay in opening and navigating “A Greek-English Lexicon” (LSJ). (See this thread.)
- Fixed bug that caused the letters in “The Contemplative Pastor” title on the title page to be jumbled around the page.
- Fixed bug that caused scrolling to slow down considerably in the MWDICT11 with a large number of search results displayed in the book and the “Show Search Bookmarks” program setting enabled.
Search Panel
- Added “This panel supports export only” message in place of blank Search Analysis preview in Print/Export panel.
- Fixed bug in Basic Search panel that caused collapsed titles to be expanded after a different, expanded title was collapsed.
- Fixed bug that caused popup text in the Analysis results view to disappear after only one second.
- Fixed crash caused by searching for a specific word in a specific resource. (See this thread.)
- Fixed bug that could cause Bible Search results to be doubled. Note: Requires a rebuild of your index. First try ‘rebuild Bible index’ command. If that is not successful, do a full rebuild with the ‘rebuild index’ command. (See this thread.)
- Made improvements to the page controls found at the bottom of the Grid View results panel in Bible search.
- Fixed bug that caused an added search term to be removed after addition, or to be re-added after deletion. (See this thread.)
- “Templates” and “New Syntax Search” links on Syntax Search Query dropdown work correctly.
- Improved alignment of chapter and verse numbers in Bible Search results Grid view.

Startup
- Fixed crash (InvalidOperationException) when starting Logos 4 with Russian selected in Mac Language Preferences.
- Fixed bug that caused indexer to launch with wrong user after login if Mac was restarted during indexing.
- Fixed bug that could cause application to hang on first attempt at startup. (See this thread.)
- Logos 4 Installer will quit Indexer when installing resource or software updates.
Syntax Search Document
- Fixed multiple bugs and made improvements to Syntax Search documents.
Syntax Search Panel
- Pressing [Enter] will begin search (in addition to clicking Go button).
- Fixed bug that opened preferred Bible rather than the clause visualizer when clicking on the reference links in the results list.
Text Comparison,
- Changed ‘Show differences’ and ‘Show base text’ buttons to toggle-type buttons so they will appear depressed when enabled.
- Fixed bug that prevented linked panels from navigating to new reference when change was made in linked Text Comparison panel. (See this thread.)
- Hovering over red dots in text with “Show differences” enabled will now display tooltip.
- Immediate Compare (F7) will now close upon clicking outside of that window or upon clicking one of the resource or reference links.
- Reference links in Vertical Layout will open correctly to corresponding Bible instead of all linking to the same Bible.
- Text from RTL (e.g., Hebrew) resources is now displayed right-to-left with verse numbers displayed to the right.
Visual Filter document
- Fixed bug that prevented arrow from closing the morph picker.
- Fixed bug that prevented “Match all word forms” from displaying as checked by default.

- Ctrl+P now opens the standard Windows Print dialog (as does the Print button on the Handout toolbar).
Resource Panel
- Fixed bug which caused incorrect display of right-to-left languages when copying one verse from an Interlinear resource.
Rich Text Editor
- Fixed bug that prevented abbreviated titles for Ecclesiastes from being detected as hyperlinks in Notes and Clippings. (See this thread.)
Search Panel
- Fixed bug in Morph Search that aligned starting vowels in the wrong order where the end of the previous segment is the highlighted result.
Syntax Search
- Made Syntax Search approximately 10x faster when the search returns thousands of results.
Syntax Search Document
- Fixed crash caused by adding an agreement rule. (See this thread.)
- Fixed crash caused by emptying a field in the ‘occurrences’ drop down and then clicking another option. (See this thread.)
Word Puzzle
- Fixed crash caused by running a Word Puzzle on a specific passage in a specific resource. (See this thread.)

Known Issues

Personal Books
- Personal Books from LDLS3 (*.lbxpbb) cannot be read in Logos 4; they will need to be recompiled in Logos 4 from the original sources. For more information, see this thread.
- Not all Word formatting is supported, e.g. text effects and word art, highlighting, fill effects, text boxes, charts, embedded documents and other similar features will be ignored.
- Hyperlinks utilizing the logosres: format for articles (art=) may not link correctly as these links are case sensitive and the URL output in the program is not. The current workaround is to type the unique portions of the link in capital letters (i.e., ‘logosres:cathlect;art=index.1stsundayofadvent.yearb’ will link incorrectly to the resource title page whereas ‘logosres:CATHLECT;art=INDEX.1STSUNDAYOFADVENT.YEARB’ will link to the correct location.)

Known Issues for Mac
- Library
  - Dragging the title to the main window does not dismiss the Library drop-down.
- Notes
  - The active note cannot be collapsed in Compact view.
