Disk Utility Restore

Mac OS X installation media includes Disk Utility – can relocate (restore) your operating system and data to another storage device => http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4337 (steps work for Leopard as well as Snow Leopard and more Mac models)

Time Machine Duplication

Mac OS X installation can use Time Machine Backup to copy all user settings (including Logos) to new computer (or Mac OS X reinstall on existing computer). Time Machine information => http://www.apple.com/findouthow/mac/#timemachinebasics and http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427 Optional: since Logos indexes can be rebuilt, they can be excluded from Time Machine hourly backup
OS X Lion and OS X Mountain Lion Recovery => http://www.apple.com/macosx/recovery/ and Recovery Disk Assistant => http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4848
Caveat: if want to change user name, then Time Machine Duplication does not work because Time Machine cannot change the fully qualified path (includes user name) to Logos resource files, which is inside database file(s) used by Logos.

Copy Logos Resources to Mac OS X

Note: variation of Method 3 for PC’s on Quick Installation onto multiple computers - can copy Logos resources from existing OS X Logos installation OR Virtual Machine (Parallels, VMWare Fusion, VirtualBox) OR Windows computer (including Boot Camp), then use scan <path> command

1) Copy Logos Resources folder from your existing Logos installation to your Mac desktop OR an external drive

Operating System Logos Resources folder with path (username is your login name; random is a random 8.3 folder name, e.g. 96w5gowz.x6i )
Mac OS X /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/random/ResourceManager/Resources – On OS X, Logos4 folder is used by Logos 5 and Logos 4
Windows 8, 7 & Vista C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Logos\Data\random\ResourceManager\Resources – New Logos 5 install on Windows Vista or newer
Windows 8, 7 & Vista C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\random\ResourceManager\Resources – Logos 4 install, which can be upgraded to Logos 5
Windows XP C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Logos4\Data\random\ResourceManager\Resources
  • Note: if reinstalling Logos on OS X, Delete /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Logos4 folder

2) Download “LogosMac” OR “Logos4Mac” disk image, then drag “Logos Bible Software 5” OR “Logos Bible Software 4” to desired folder (e.g. Applications, Documents)
 2a) Current Logos 5 for OS X Stable release (~ 120 MB)
  OR
2b) Current Logos 4 Mac Stable release (~ 121 MB)
  OR
2c) Current Logos 5 for OS X Beta release - Beta program page has information + risks
  OR
2d) Current Logos 4 Mac Beta release - Beta program page has information + risks

3) Launch “Logos Bible Software 5” OR “Logos Bible Software 4” application then sign-in

4) Once downloading starts, click on blue Logos icon in menu bar => Cancel Download

5) Click “Logos” OR “Logos Bible Software 4” => Preferences (OR Tools => Program Settings)

  • Change “Automatically Download Updates” from Yes to No
  • Option: change “Use Internet” from Yes to No (can control when to sync stuff from Logos servers)

6) Type scan <path to Resources folder> in Command bar & Enter

  • If Resources folder is on your Mac Desktop, use scan /Users/username/Desktop/Resources command (replacing username with your login name)
  • If Resources folder is on an external drive, use scan /Volumes/volume name/Resources command (replacing volume name with external drive name, e.g. USB default volume name is NONAME)
  • Note: <path to resources folder> must not have /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Logos4... because scan command copies resources files within specified path (including subfolders) into your Logos4 folder.
  • Option: can open /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Logging/Logos4.log file to verify scan path added

7) Quit “Logos” OR “Logos Bible Software 4” application

8) Launch “Logos Bible Software 5” OR “Logos Bible Software 4” application then wait for Library Preparation to Complete

  • Blue Icon should appear in Menu Bar along with “Preparing Your Library”
  • Indexing may take several hours, can open /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Logging/Indexer.log file to monitor progress (replacing username with your login name)

9) Optional: Click “Logos” OR “Logos Bible Software 4” => Preferences (OR Tools => Program Settings)

  • Change “Automatically Download Updates” from No to Yes
  • Option: if “Use Internet” is No, when want to sync from Logos servers, click arrows or use Sync Now command

Duplicate Logos Mac Installation

Not Supported – this method saves lengthy downloading and indexing by duplicating an existing OS X Logos installation for the same username - has worked for some, but failed for others:

Note: username is your login name, which is included in the fully qualified path to resource files (inside a database file used by Logos) so this method always fails if username is different.

1) Navigate to /Users/username/Library/ApplicationSupport/Logos4

2) Copy Logos4 folder to an external drive with about 15-30 GB free (depends on the size of your library)

3) Copy “Logos Bible Software 5” OR “Logos Bible Software 4” application onto new Mac from a fresh .dmg download: Current Logos 5 for OS X Stable release OR Current Logos 4 Mac Stable release

4) Copy Logos4 folder from external HD to new computer’s /Users/username/Library/ApplicationSupport folder

NOTE: Clicking on sidebar icon with house will take you to your home directory (/Users/username). Make sure you do not look under your HD root directory—that library folder won’t have the info you are looking for.
