Logos 4 Release Notes
What’s New in 4.5
Added Base Package information to the ‘About Logos Bible Software’ dialog which will display the largest package licensed to the current user.
Added ‘View online user-edited wiki’ to Help menu in English interface.
Logos 4 will check for newly unlocked resources while it is running. If automatic downloads are enabled, the resources will be downloaded once the unlock is detected. (See Known Issues.)
Notes and Highlighting
Added controls for note text highlighting.
When highlighting is added to selected text a note item will now be created. The initial default setting will add the note item to a new note document with the same name as the palette containing the highlighting style used. (A note indicator will only appear in the resource by default when adding a note to a resource selection or reference, not when applying highlighting.)
Existing applied highlighting is migrated into the Notes database. New Notes documents are created for each system and custom palette in which styles have been used to highlight text, with links to the location of the highlighting.
When highlighting is applied, if the Highlighting panel is open, a message will appear at the bottom of the panel that reads ‘Annotation added to “Notes document title”.’ The title is a hyperlink to open the Notes document to the new note item’s location.
Clicking on the note icon in the Notes document will open a drop down menu where note indicator shape and color can be changed. For note items linked to a text selection, this menu will also contain options for the highlighting style used for that selection: ‘Highlight with note color’ for a background highlight the same color as the note indicator, ‘No Highlight’ or any of the styles available in the Highlighting panel.
Selected highlight style will auto-scroll into view when the drop-down displays.
Default is “Highlight with note color.”
If “No highlight” is selected, choose “Highlight with note color,” or select from the available styles, to toggle on highlight.
“Use this style by default” and “Reset” controls are provided to change the default from “Highlight with note color,” or to reset the note highlight back to that setting.
Expanded/Collapsed state of highlight palettes is persisted.
Deleting a palette that contains styles still in use will be prevented and the attempt will bring up a “# style is still in use” alert at the top of the Highlighting panel. The alert can be closed or left open until it disappears on its own in 10 seconds. Hovering over the alert will keep it open and display the styles in use and how many times each one has been applied.
Deleting a style that is still in use will bring up a “Style is still in use” alert, with an option to move the annotation(s) to “No highlight” or to another style from the drop-down list, before clicking “Delete Style.” To close the alert without moving the annotation, click “Cancel.”
“Import Delete Notes” command will only delete imported notes, leaving alone migrated imported visual markup.
Displayed highlighting palette and style names will appear at the end of Information panel data when hovering over or clicking on highlighted text (depending on Information panel setting).
The Previous/Next buttons on the Locator Bar of a resource with Notes/Highlighting now include “Annotation” navigation, which replaces the “Highlight” navigation from earlier versions.
Significant Performance improvements have been implemented for adding a note and applying highlights.
Removed default note text size from Program Settings (default is now set in the Notes panel) and implemented new command to change the text size of old notes which used the default size set in Program Settings and have not been edited for size since the option was removed:
Set Old Default Notes Text Size to x
where x is the desired font size or ‘default’ to set notes to current default size.
Moved “New palette” function to toolbar.
Added command menu buttons to the right of each palette for alternate access to context menu (right-click) options.
Highlighting panel “Erase” function can be used to modify the text range of notes. If this splits the range into two portions, the note will be split into two notes and any content will remain on the first note.
When a full text range is erased, if the note item has no content, it will be deleted. Associated note items with content will be set to ‘No highlight’.
Highlighting note destination can be selected for a particular palette by clicking on the Palette’s menu, selecting “Palette specific note file” (default) and changing the selection to “Most recent note file” or a specific user-created Notes document.
Implemented the ability to move a specific highlighting style from one custom palette to another. Note: This does not move any note items utilizing that style, even if the destination palette is assigned to a different note document than the originating palette.
Added Indent and Outdent controls to the right of the “Add note” link at top of Notes document panel. Clicking the Indent button will move a note to the right, to enable finer organization of notes. Clicking the Outdent button will move the note back to the left.
Hyperlinked Citation will be automatically added to the end of pasted resource text in a note.
Notes without content will display in “Compact” form unless the note is active.
Pressing “Esc” in an active note will defocus and collapse the note.
“Remove annotations” option available on right side of resource context menu when selection contains a note. Selecting this option will delete note from Notes document and resource.
: “Remove annotations” will not remove a note text range, as the “Erase” function mentioned above will do. It will remove the note completely, including the associated highlight (if one is present.)
Notes Panel Menu
Added “Sort by reference.”
Added “Sort by date added.”
Added “Sort by title.”
Added “Sort by note color.”

Added Foreground and Background Color picker to rich text toolbar controls.

Added a “My Content” search range to Basic Search, which searches Documents, saved Guides and Personal Books.
Sync v2 implemented for Notes, custom Highlighting styles, Favorites, and certain Preferences, such as SavedResourcePosition.
“Sync Check” Command implemented to check for synchronization errors. Entering this command will download all of the sync items on the server and compare them to the sync items on the client, reporting any mismatches to the Logos4.log (if logging is enabled) as well as to a new “Logos4Error.log.” Logging does not have to be enabled to generate the “Logos4Error” log.

If the Logos 4 Indexer is currently running when a new resource is unlocked, the app may need to be restarted to begin the resource download and installation.
Not all Background colors available in Notes in Logos 4 are available as Text Highlight Colors in Microsoft Word. Because of this, a Notes document exported to RTF and opened in Word, or sent directly to a Word document, may display an alternate background color. For example, the orange background color will display as yellow in Word.
Indentation of Notes is not printed.
There are a few remaining apocryphal books which are not auto-detected correctly in the Spanish and Swedish UIs.
Spanish: Daniel (Adiciones Deuterocanónicas)
Swedish: Salomos vishet, Jesus Syraks vishet, and Jeremias brev
If a search result from a Personal Book is clicked while the book is recompiling a missing resource tab will open (on Windows, ‘You own this resource, but for some reason it is not in your library’, on Mac, ‘Resource Unavailable’) which is expected. If the tab is left open, but not active when the book finishing compiling, the program will switch to the resource missing tab. This tab must be closed and the Personal Book reopened to view the recompiled resource.
Because of a limitation in Word, only the first exported item will correctly display the citation present in the preview window. For the inclusion of multiple citations, copy and paste the desired text into your document instead, which will automatically create footnoted citations.
Hidden references (those in collapsible sections or hidden by visual filters like ‘Bible text only’) still have their footnotes shown on page.
Known Issues for Mac
Text size changes, using the text slider in Basic and Bible Search panels, may hang the program.
Known Issues for Windows
Audio file lengths are displayed incorrectly. Allowed to play through, the audio controls will disappear when the audio completes, though it will end before the full time displayed.
