Open or View my Library

  • Click on the book icon/button in the upper left area of your window (Mac users: at the top of the desktop). This will open a panel with your Library. See also the wiki page Library.

How many books do I have in my Library?

  • In the Library panel, look to the right of the Find box your will see a number. See the wiki page article How many books are in my Library? for pictures & more details.

How can I find my books by type (Bibles, Commentaries, etc)

  • In the Library panel, if you select the detailed view and then click on the Type column heading, Logos will sort your books by type. And in rows under the headings row you will notice book categories. Click on a category to expand it. How do I find my sermon files that I built in Libronix?

I don’t see the ‘>>’ for the Table of Contents

  • You don’t have the Locator bar turn ON. In the resource’s menu, click on Show Locator bar or on your keyboard press the key combination Ctrl Shift L. For more info on the Locator bar see the wiki page Navigating a Resource (controls in the Locator bar).

Is there a way to set the default dictionary when right clicking?

  • Yes there is. You will need to set the priorities for dictionaries in your Library. See the wiki page Prioritizing, also Mark Barnes has a video which discusses prioritizing.

Is there a way to copy part of my resource to a word processor?

  • Yes there are several ways to do this, please see this post.

How do I use Search?

  • If you are in the Home page and just want to view the Layout, then click on the house icon. It will take your from the Home page to your Layout view.

Can I save Layouts automatically?

  • Yes, but it is done differently compared to Libronix. Logos saves your current layout when you close the program and opens it the next time you start Logos (providing that you do not go to the Home page when you open Logos). See wiki page How do I get a layout to show when I open Logos?.

What are Clipping used for?

  • They are like index cards that you create when your are researching a subject. You can make a Clippings file for each subject that you might be researching and have multiple index cards in each file. Watch Mark Barnes videos Logos Tutorial Video #7 – Clippings and Logos Tutorial Video #11 – Managing your content. Also see the wiki Clippings.

How can I find a clipping in a Clipping file?

  • You can use the Find box in your clipping file to locate a clipping by a word which might appear in the clipping. Or if you tagged the clipping, enter the word that you tagged the clipping with in the Find box.

How can I reference a clipping for future study?

In Handouts

Where can I find info on Handouts?

  • Handouts as of ver 4.1 are awaiting a redesign by Logos (see CEO’s comments). So there is no wiki page until this happens. But in the mean time you can search the forum posts which might give you the info you need (Link to google search).



In Notes

Can I use tables in Notes?

  • No you cannot make tables in Notes. Logos decided not to include this feature. You might look on the forum posts for more info (link Google search).

How to split a large note file?

  • There is no easy way to do this, but see this post for suggestions.

  • In this post you will find a Word document which contains links to all the ESV Study Bible Charts. And in that same post are instructions on how to add those links to a note file. Once that you have completed the note file you can easily use it to open your ESV Study Bible directly to each of the charts in the ESV Study Bible.

How do I copy a ‘passage list’ and paste it specially formatted style?

  • A user asked this question and the answer was No. But in the post there is a work-around.

Passage List Cuts off the passage

  • In Passage List there is a limit to how many characters will be displayed for a passage in PL. This was expanded in ver 4.1, see this post for the discussion.

Inputting multiple passages into a Passage List manually

  • The user in this post was trying to do this from a resource. Several suggestions were given there which made it much easier. Also please view the wiki Passage Lists.

Why should I use Favorites?

  • Favorites is probably the most useful tool for organizing your documents, study, and a variety of other uses. Mark Barnes has made a video which display using Favorites to organize: Logos Tutorial Video #6 – Favorites. Also look at the wiki article The power of Favorites.
  • Some use favorites to store bookmarks or make link to books that they want to read and mark books which they have already read.



In Bookmarks

How do I bookmark a book?

  • You should start with opening the tool. Click on Tools and then click on Favorites. Logos has kinda hid the Bookmark tool at the bottom of the Favorites panel. Now in the book that you want to bookmark, use your mouse to grab the books tab and drag to to one of the Bookmarks and drop it there. For better details with pictures see wiki page Bookmarks.



In Highlighting

Can I hide highlighting in my book?

  • Yes. Logos has made this easy. In the book that you want to hide your highlighting, on its toolbar click on the icon . In the drop down menu find the highlighting that you want to hide and click to uncheck it. For a more detailed explanation see the wiki page Visual Filter Menu .

Can I apply Precepts highlighting?

  • Yes, Logos provides several Precepts highlighting styles, look under Inductive on the highlighting tool. You also may want to see question/answers in the forum (link Google search (Precepts)).

Creative way to use Custom Highlighting Text

  • You can create custom text to be used in Highlighting. This wiki page Custom Highlighting: Orig Lang. (for Visual Filters) describes how to create a custom highlight for a Hebrew word and then use it with Visual Filters to apply the Hebrew word in Bible text. You can use this technique for a variety of word replacements!

What are Reading Lists?

  • Reading List are user generated lists of reading material which pertains to a specific topic. Please see the wiki page [[Reading Lists] for more details. Also on the wiki page are links to videos that Logos has made for Reading Lists.



In Biblical People

  • Mark has made a great video covering Biblical People/Place/Things.

The people & text are too small to read

  • When in Biblical People you select a person who has a large tree (e.g. Jesus) the figures & text may appear very small. You can zoom in/out by holding your mouse over the image and rolling the wheel or use the keyboard and use Ctrl + or Ctrl – (Mac users use Cmd + or Cmd –). To move the zoomed image, hold the mouse over the image and the cursor changes to a hand. Grabbing the image and dragging it will allow you to reposition it within the window.

Did you know you can open Biblical People from your resource?

  • When you are reading in your Bible and see a name of a person and want to see what Biblical People has to show you, then right click on that name and select Person (on the right) and Biblical People (on the left). See this wiki page for help Biblical People.



In Biblical Places

  • Mark has made a great video covering Biblical People/Place/Things.

Using the distance measuring tool

  • This only works on newer maps that show latitude and longitude. Locate a place on the map and hold the Ctrl key down and press the left button on your mouse and drag to the other location that you want to measure (Mac users: use Cmd). A red arrow will appear over the map with a large circle and text will appear telling you the distance. When you release the Ctrl button this distance graphic will disappear. Using Find to locate a city or region on the map

  • If the map shows latitude and longitude then you can use the Find box to enter the city or region and Logos will take you to that place on your current map. See the wiki page Using the Find box.

  • If the map shows latitude and longitude then click on an area of your map and in the upper right corner of your Biblical Place window click on the Google icon . See the Mark’s video Biblical Facts.

What is the Explorer?

  • The Explorer tool collects information about your current Bible passage. It is defaulted to Follow, so as you click on different resources or scroll your resource it refreshes its screen. This was asked in this post. Also view the wiki Explorer

Where are my Reverse Interlinears?

  • In Logos Reverse Interlinears are not individual resources. They are incorporated into different translations. See the wiki page Reverse-Interlinear/Interlinear Bibles.

What are those strange symbols shown in my Reverse Interlinear?

Does Logos show the Interlinears like in Libronix?

  • Yes, this is referred to as Full Page reverse interlinear. See the wiki Full_Page_Interlinear_Bible_Resource.

How do I select what shows under the English text?

  • Please see the wiki Reverse-Interlinear/Interlinear Bibles for instructions. There are instructions on how to do this for both Reverse Interlinear modes.



Sympathetic Highlighting

Why is SH not working in my NIV?

  • You are probably using the Old Testament. The NIV reverse interlinear is not complete yet for the OT. Sympathetic highlighting only works in Bible which have a Reverse Interlinear (connection back to the original language). For more info see the wiki page Sympathetic highlighting.

Highlighting a word in NASB does not highlighting in NA27 or BHS

  • This was answered by Phillip in this post.

  • For highlighting in Hebrew and you do not have the BHS morphology version, then try using the AFAT (Anderson Forbes Analyzed Text) which comes with base packages.

Syncing User data

What is Sync?

  • Sync’ing communicates documents, settings and other data between Logos servers and your computer. This enables Logos to look the same on all your computers. For more info look in other forum posts (see this Google search or (Sync)). Also Logos has a short video on Sync User Data.



Smart Tags

What are Smart Tags?

  • Smart tags work within MS Word to allow you to insert Bible passages in Word. Please see the wiki Smart Tags.

Linking Resources

How do I get my Bible to track my Commentary?

  • You will need to use Linking to tie your Bible(s) to a Commentary(s). If you click on the book icon found in the upper left corner of your Bible (and Commentary) a drop down menu will appear. You should see Link set and to the right letters. Click on a letter here and make sure you do the same in your commentary (use the same letter). How do I disable security warnings in Power Point?

  • In Microsoft Office when you add a hyperlink to Logos and then click on it you may receive a security warning from Office. To disable the security warning please view this post to guide you through disabling the security warning in the Registry.



Read Aloud

Turned off when scrolling

  • The Read Aloud function is turned Off when you hit the scrollbar. Bradley acknowledges it here in this post and says that it will be addressed in the future.

How do I turn Off Read Aloud?

  • You can turn it Off by pressing the key combination Ctrl R (Mac users: Cmd R). Or you can click on the resource’s icon and in the drop down menu click on Stop reading aloud.

Can I change the speed or voice?

  • In windows yes you can. In the control panel open Text to Speech and you will see a tab with ways to changes these. For image of this control see this post.

Are there 3rd party voices?

  • Yes, a couple are mentioned in this post.
